Kalyves Chania: A picturesque seaside village located 20 km south east of Chania Town. Today it is known as a calm tourist resort, ideal for families with many modern amenities and a long sandy beach, just a short breath away from the settlement.
This village consists of two settlements, the old and the new town which co-exist in total harmony. The village offers a mix of stone built houses with the characteristic red tiled roofs and modern infastructure, covering all types of visitors.
The modern part of Kalyves is made up of fish taverns, hotels and rooms for rent. The beach is long, sandy and organized with sunbeds and umbrellas. Many fishing boats and yachts moor in the small port of Kalyves in summer.
In the square of the village, there is an old watermill, the first hydroelectric station of the prefecture that worked in the beginning of the 20th century. Other beautiful villages to visit in the region are Armeni, with large plane trees and running water, and Neo Chorio, with a Venetian press oil.
During summer, beach is the beating heart of the village.
The beach which is a block down from the square of the village, is interrupted by the outfall of the Xidas river, in front of the Kalyves beach hotel, and then stretches east up to the harbour.
The beach is well organized with sun beds and umbrellas that belong to one of the cafes or restaurants along the beach road.
