Mykonos comes into its own at night. From the host of prime positions from which to watch a deep orange and purple sunset, to the number of sophisticated cocktail bars, and the choice of dance clubs to head to in the small hours, it’s as if the island was made for partying. Every night is a good night to go out (it doesn’t calm down just because it’s, say, Tuesday) and there’s no such thing as a quiet pub, so if you can’t beat them, join them.
Cavo Paradiso – Paradise Beach
Perched on a cliff overlooking the sea, this is the most legendary of Mykonos’ out-of-town clubs. Its huge open-air dancefloor heaves with revelers from the wee hours of the morning, when action in Mykonos Town winds down, until dawn. Nightly DJ sets attract international talent such as Oliver Heldens, Nicky Romero and Ingrosso. Advance bookings highly recommended. Shuttles to/from Mykonos Town.
Jackie O’ – Super Paradise Beach & Mykonos Town
Overlooking the sea, this is the best gay bar in Mykonos Town and a popular sunset-watching spot (for everyone). Entertaining drag queen shows are held nightly, while the Jackie O’ Beach Club overlooking Super Paradise Beach is great for lounging around the pool and Jacuzzi and then partying it up at the weekly fashion-themed parties, involving resident artists and guest DJs.
Skandinavian Bar & Club – Mykonos Town
The central pillar of the Mykonos club, dance, and music scene is the Skandinavian Bar. In the heart of Mykonos town, the bar’s famous DJ conjures an energetic and exciting atmosphere with the hottest music while you stay cool with the finest cocktails. Comprised of two open-air bars, a patio, dance floors, and a VIP area, this hotspot has expanded over the past 30 years to cover an entire city block with high-energy fun.
Astra – Mykonos Town
Immerse yourself in the glitter and the glamour of the ‘60s and ‘70s at the ASTRA Bar in Mykonos. Designed and build by the world-renowned artist, Minas, ASTRA Bar incorporates retro décor with stylish furnishings and design beneath an observatory-like dome. Opting for a mid-sized space despite the trend toward mega-discos, this bar and club gives guests quality before quantity with its hottest music by some of the top Athens DJs and delicious cocktails.
Queen of Mykonos – Mykonos Town
Swanky but not overly pretentious, in the evenings this glam cocktail bar attracts the young and the beautiful, who cluster around the tall tables outside. The handcrafted signature cocktails are worth the splurge, particularly the ones involving champagne. There’s some DJ action later on at night, but for many this is an evening warmup spot before hitting one of the megaclubs out of town.
