Sotiros (Sotiras) village, located 23 km south west of Limenas, the capital of Thassos between Kalirachi and Prinos. The mountainous village is built at a high altitude of 380 metres, on the foothills of Mount Ypsarion, offering a wonderful view to the sea. Nowadays Sotiras counts on few inhabitants, ancient ruins, old, traditional houses, beautiful ancient churches and a superb fountain dating from 1888. The beautifully traditional aspect of the village makes it one of the most attractive and quiet villages of Thassos. Some cafes and rooms for rent are available, as well as an excellent tavern, located on the central square.
Sotiras is a small mountainous village built amphitheatrically at an altitude of 300m. It is 22km far from Limenas and 3km from its Skala. It was inhabited by miners in the past and by residents of Katirahi. However, over the years, the houses have been remote and only a few people have remained there.
The village has traditional houses with narrow paved with slabs alleys without having access by car. In the village square, under the planes, you will meet a marble faucet constructed in 1890.The view from the village to the sea is incredible!
The village maintained a good relationship with Athos(Agio Oros). The Holy Temple of Sotiros was built in 1890 and the chancel screen was made by monks from Athos(Agio Oros).
