Vafkeri village, Lefkada : Vafkeri is a wonderful mountainous village with just 100 inhabitants. It is built at 500 metres altitude within a vast green area amidst olive tree forests. It is located 22 km south of Lefkada Town.
Vafkeri is a deserted village with ruined buildings that witness the way of life some centuries ago and totally unspoilt with an idyllic verdant landscape. The road that connects Nidri with the village offers a breathtaking view to the Ionian Sea. In close distance from the village is a historic 15th century monastery.
Vafkeri Village – Holidays in Lefkada
The picturesque mountain settlement of Vafkeri is located in the center of mainland Lefkada, only 9km from Nydri, nestled in the mountains.
It is a very scenic village, with stone-built houses, some inhabited and some tumbledown, with beautiful green verdure. There are two tavernas. One with typical village grill which tends to open only in the high season and the other one has won many awards for its cuisine and it is open throughout the year.
The history of this village goes back to 16th – 17th centuries, but now most of its houses stand empty. It is yet another of the villages which are slowly dying of depopulation.
The view from Vafkeri village, of the shimmering sea of Nydri and Onasis’ “Scorpios” Island, is magnificent.
