Samos island is located 175 nautical miles away from Piraeus (Athens) and is the closest to Turkey Greek island, from which it is separated by the Mykali strait or Dar Bogaz in Turkish, with a minimum width of approximately 1650 m. At its northwest lies Chios, Ikaria at its west, Fournoi at its southwest and Dodecanese at its south, of which the nearest are Agathonisi, Arki and Patmos.
